Central Railway was formed on 5th November 1951 by combining the
Great Indian Peninsula Railway, Nizam State Railway and Scindia/Dholpur
State Railways, consequent upon integration of Indian State Railways
with the Indian Government Railways.
Since then the Railway network on Central Railway have been
constantly expanding mainly by way of Doubling & New Lines. From its
inception till the year 2002, 1392 kms of New Lines, 2507 kms of
Doubling and 275 kms of Gauge Conversion from Narrow Gauge to Broad Gauge
is added by Construction organisation of Central Railway.
